2011 - Well 2010 is over and it
was a very exciting year for us. Through
our shared successes, we have had our
best year ever in terms of sales and new
accounts and, more importantly, we
acquired the ProvideX business from Sage.
For
those of you who haven't been following,
in October we finalized the purchase of
the ProvideX business from Sage. With
this acquisition, ProvideX has now come
full circle and is back in our hands. We
can now focus on developing newer
technologies and features to the language
in order to help you, the developer
community, achieve your goals and
successes.
While we
are a smaller business than Sage, our 25
years of dedication to the product
combined with our focus on the business
basic market and new technologies, will
assure the product gets the attention it
so richly deserves.
Philosophy
Being as
it is the start of what likely is going
to be an exciting year for the ProvideX
community, I thought I would take a
moment to share a bit of my personal
philosophy about ProvideX and what has
helped make it what it is today.
I suppose
the best way to sum it all up is 'Keep it
Simple'. Dealers and developers of
business applications have enough to
worry about in just getting their
application to work. While to some,
business applications sound pretty easy,
in actual fact the challenges they face
are some of the toughest in the computer
industry. Business applications have to
emulate and deal with all the nuances of
running a business, from dealing with tax
rules, shipping routes, inventory
requirements, government red tape, and
many other day-to-day business issues.
Add to that you are expected to maintain
the integrity of the data for systems
that are often up 7 days a week, 24 hours
a day.
Game,
operating system, and tools developers
often speak of the complexity of their
systems, but when it comes to real life;
business applications have to be right
and run correctly each and every time.
Because
of this, we have long recognized that it
is important that we make the development
toolkit you use as simple as possible.
Application developers have more than
enough on their plate without having to
worry about learning new tools or
technologies from scratch.
My goal
has always been to provide tools that
make what is often complex simple. This
allows you, the developer, to focus on
what you do best; develop business
applications.
In
keeping with this philosophy, we are
constantly striving to bring new
technology to your existing applications.
As far
back as the mid 1980's, we have been
helping dealers by providing access to
current technology without the need to
redevelop. In the 80's, we provided the
ability to get off proprietary operating
systems and run Unix and MS-Dos. In the
1990's, we provided tools and the
utilities to make your application
graphical so it could run on Windows. The
2000's saw us focus on providing you
means to integrate you systems with
relational databases as these became more
prevalent in the market.
Today we
are focusing on the web and making it
possible for you to run your application
on the Internet with a minimum of
changes.
We
recognize that our dealer's main asset is
their application code and logic; and it
is our goal to assist them to easily
adapt to changing technologies. Using our
expertise, we will continue to develop
tools that will give you the freedom to
focus on your application, while we focus
on allowing it to take advantage of the
changes in technology.
What
the future holds
2011 will
bring some exciting changes.
During
the spring/summer we will be launching
version 10 of ProvideX and PxPlus. This
new release will allow us to incorporate
a number of PxPlus features in the core
ProvideX product. We will also now be
able to provide new PxPlus features that
could not have been introduced without
having control of ProvideX. More details
on Version 10 will be provided in the
next few months.
We also
have plans for a new developer program
that will provide low-cost access to
development licenses. This program will
be rolled out over the web during the
next few months and will not only provide
dealers with access to the latest
technologies we have to offer, but will
also help promote the use of PxPlus as a
development environment.
Also
during 2011, we will be introducing a new
tiered pricing model that will reward
companies as they grow and will provide
incentives to new businesses.
Thank
you
Finally
we would like to thank you all for your
business. We realize that you have many
options today for development from
name-brand products to free open source
offerings. PVX Plus Technologies is
committed to making sure that our
products will remain your best choice to
guarantee the long-term viability of your
application.
While we
may not be free, we are confident that if
you look at the costs to adopt a new
language re-develop and deploy that we
provide the best choice to you now and in
the future.
Regards,
Michael F. King
